You decided to get a new pup or just recently adopted one - big yey for you! One major thing to think about though: What are you going to name the little furball?
Choosing the right name for your dog is something personal and meaningful. It should reflect their personality and their physical features. Naming a big dog with a small sounding dog name like Bubbles or Baby will surprise the mailman I tell you!
Here are some things to consider when choosing your pet's name:
Ring-a-ling
Choose a name that has a nice ring to it and can be pronounced easily. Names that sounds quite alike to other words may confuse your pup especially names that sound like commands.
Shortie Portie
Short, jolly sounding names perks their ears and elicit response quickly rather than a long boring one.
Note though that acknowledgement of their names isn't immediate. It takes a while for them to get used to it. Key thing is repeat and reward.
Time Allot at least 15-30 mins a day to train your pup and do it same time to establish consistency.
Choose your ground Find a quiet place that won't divert their attention. No cats or squirrels running around to tease them please!
Reward This is a must! Positive reinforcement training is the most powerful tool to get them to respond quickly. So get those treats ready.
Whatever name you choose, choose it with your heart. Sometimes a name just pops up as soon as you meet their eyes.
